I’ve been on the hunt primarily for fix-it fic, not gonna lie, but this was just so beautifully written that I was snared from the first paragraph all the way to the end.  The imagery is perfect, the way that their thoughts are captured is perfect, this fic is perfect.  Highly recommended.

What would have happened to Jack and Ennis if their summer on Brokeback had not been cut short by threatened snow?

There are some choice lines in here that just stabbed me in the guts.  I can’t recommend this enough.

This story is set just after Ennis’s divorce from Alma and the fateful call that brings Jack all the way from Texas.

The thing that impresses me most about this author’s writing is how effortlessly her prose mirrored Proulx’s writing style.  I don’t know if it was intentional or not but it fit perfectly.  This was gorgeously done and a highly satisfying alternate ending.

Okay, if I had to pick a fic for my ultimate fix-it fic, my this-is-what-I-am-absolutely-convinced-actually-happened-and-nothing-can-convince-me-otherwise, it would be this fic hands down.  In this fic, Jack jerks aside at just the last moment when the tire rim explodes and goes into a coma instead of dying.  He’s sent back to Lightning Flat to recover and when Ennis hears of it, he immediately goes to take care of Jack.

Between the absolutely fantastic expert details on what it’s genuinely like to run a ranch and the fantastically characterized progression of their relationship, I’m just utterly in love with this universe.  I love all of the minor characters the author uses and even though I’m not normally a huge fan of POV switches, it was really well done in this fic, offering greater insight into events both present and past.  I wasn’t sure about the use of endearments, especially at the beginning, but these two are so well characterized throughout that I ended up not caring at all.  I’ve read very few fics that read like they hold an entire world within their depths, just spilling off the edges, but this is definitely one of them.  Ahhhhh, I just want to run around and shove this fic at everybody.  Seriously cannot recommend this enough! <33

Which made a better punishment, the punch or the kiss? Riding the bull or hitting the ground? All his depthless want and his stupid love and all that going-nowhere hope. 

It’s been ages and ages since I’ve last read BBM fic but I’ve been reading it nonstop for a few days and I think if I had to pick one fic to make other people read, this would be it.  It’s shorter than most of the others but absolutely beautifully written and painful.  There’s such a lovely quiet flow to the piece that caught me easily and carried all the way to the end.  But I think I’d expect no less from one of the coauthors of the Shoebox Project. :)

all the trappings of love by rageprufrock

It was bound to happen eventually. Clark just never anticipated it would be so loud.

I generally tend to stay away from first person fic, but this?  Well it’s rageprufrock—which means that the comedy and drama get rolled up into one neat and compelling narrative voice that transcends preferences in point of view. :D  Highly recommended!

Lex Luthor’s Penthouse for Wayward Boys.

This is another one of the few fics that managed to stick with me over the course of years—it’s adorable beyond words!  I love the crisp writing in this.  Between the sharp comedic dialogue and the fantastic details, I would love to be able to write like this.  Perfect!

Slow burn fake marriage trope, LITERALLY, WHAT COULD BE BETTER? I love the perspective in this—we’re seeing everything from Clark’s point of view so the darker side of Lex slowly and naturally gets revealed as the fic progresses and it’s fascinating to watch that progression.  Clean, easy writing, fantastic fic. <3

Everything changed the night the meteors came.

Warnings for drug use and a quasi-incestuous relationship.  This is one of those fics that sticks with you a long long time after you first read it.  This fic is compiled wonderfully and it’s a beautifully ruthless piece, really well done.
